Our TEacher Training program, began in 1993 and has grown in new and exciting ways over the years. We have had paritcipants and receive inquiries from across the US, Canada,
Europe, Japan, and India. As a result, we have structured all aspects of the program to
serve our "students at a distance" while maintaining the
integrity of this work.
In order to minimize travel, all courses
and workshops are offered during the summer intensives
and through correspondence courses.
We have been successful in working with universities to enable
students enrolled in their programs to apply to receive college
credit for Enki courses, and/or include the Enki program as a central
component of their Masters and certification programs. If this is of interest to you, please contact us directly to initiate the process with your college.
The opening weekend of the Teacher Training Program, Rousing
Intuition: Observing the Child, is open to the public and can be
taken as a single workshop. All other classes and workshops
described at this web site are part of either the Foundation Course
or the Professional Course. These are open only to those enrolled
in the program. The Foundation Course can be taken on its own
and is a prerequisite for the Professional Course. If you are
interested in either the opening workshop, the Foundation Course,
or the full training, please review the program descriptions, course
prerequisites, and Certificate requirements. An application for admission
is available at this link.
If you have any further questions please feel free to call (401) 228-7200 or email us at info@enkieducation.org.
The full program takes place over a 26-month period. The Foundation
Course extends over an six-month period and includes a four-week
residential summer intensive, and three independent study courses.
This course is an active exploration of childhood; it is appropriate
for anyone who has children, works with children, or wants to better
understand her own childhood.
The Professional Course is considerably more intensive, covering
a period of 22 months. The Professional
Course includes a second three-week residential summer intensive,
study, and assignments, a significant project,
and an internship. During these 22 months students work on assignments
on a continual basis. They are expected to devote approximately
20 hours a month to courses and projects, including research and
preparation of curricula that they will be teaching to the group
during the summer intensive.
Those successfully completing the program will receive a Certificate
of Completion and will be qualified to teach in independent schools
using the Enki approach. For programs within the public school system,
local certification may be required as well.
In some cases the Enki program will meet part of the local requirements
for initial and recertification. For assistance with certification
or college credit, please contact the appropriate program directors
PRIOR to beginning the course to make the necessary preliminary
arrangements.
Both the Foundation and Professional Courses include three to four-week,
residential summer intensives. During this time we live and work
together as a community in a rural setting. This allows us to delve
into the material and experiences offered without the demands and
distractions of our ordinary lives.
Each weekday participants attend eight hours of classes and participate
in community chores. Weekends, participants rotate through kitchen duties. In addition, one evening each week participants
meet in small groups to discuss issues that have arisen in meditation
practice and community life.
Everyone is expected to participate fully. Spontaneous evening and weekend campfires, talent shows and
other adventures are optional and open to all.
The summer program is very challenging for children as well as
parent participants. We are committed to creating a situation that
supports the well being of both; it makes little sense for adults
to plunge into an exploration of childhood at the expense their
own children. Therefore, working with the Enki
approach for children, we offer a dependable, rhythmic, and
rich outdoor program. We also strive to create a children's program
and to schedule adult classes and community work periods with family
needs in mind.
The children's program is open to children ages 2 1/2 to 12. We
strongly encourage parents to bring their young children with them.
We have found that the children are most settled and secure when
they can establish their own "children's community," with
dependable rhythms and activities. For this reason we ask that all
children participate fully in the children's program.
To support the needs of young children we have scheduled a ninety-minute
lunch period. To the best of our ability, parents of young children
will not be assigned community tasks during this time or before
breakfast and after dinner so they can devote their full attention
to their children during these times.
The children's program fills up early, as many participants have
more than one child. Early application is advised.
To keep costs as reasonable as possible, housing, food, and childcare
costs are established each year.
