INTERNSHIP

Participants in the Certificate program will complete a ten-week internship. This must be in a school in which the principles and approach taught in the Enki training can be used. As well, for those interning in the grades, two weeks must be spent with a nursery or kindergarten class using the Enki approach or a similar method that has been approved. For those working in nursery or kindergarten, two weeks must be spent in a grade school classroom (1-8), using this approach.

Those participants who feel they can apply the Enki principles and approach in their current work situation can apply to the Enki directors for approval for interning in this classroom.

O BRAVE NEW WORLD

Modern stresses in the family, community and environment are making it necessary for the teacher to meet many new challenges. Many teachers now find that as many as twenty per cent of the children in their classes have unusual needs of some sort.

In this workshop we will look at causes and introduce various methods for identifying and working with these needs in the classroom, at home and through a specialist. This course will focus on remedial work in the classroom using Sensory Integration, Educational Kinesiology, and Developmental Movement techniques. Discussion of the participants' observations and studies of special needs children will serve as a base for looking at our own assumptions and reactions.

A MIRROR ON METHODS

All approaches to education, however diverse or contradictory, have grown from a deep seed of caring and inspiration. In Enki Education we strive to perceive and learn from the essential insights underlying each. We also find that a willingness to explore that which is different often helps us to better understand and clarify our own insights.

This workshop will begin with both conceptual and experiential presentations by participants on a variety of different curricula they have researched. Through meditation, movement work and discussion, we will explore the participants' own reactions to what she/he has observed and studied. This work will help to further uncover the biases and perspectives that these reactions express. On this base we will re-examine the Enki curriculum and raise questions and issues for further exploration.

CHARTING A COURSE

Over the course of the full program, participants will have completed several assignments comparing theories of child development and curriculum. They will have worked to recognize their own reactions, perceptions and values. Now, when all other courses are completed, participants choose a final project. This project will draw from all their studies and experiences as participants work to refine and articulate their own views. For this final project participants may choose between two assignments. They may develop a series of curriculum materials for use in the Enki approach, including both academic and artistic content. Or they may develop their own curriculum plan. This plan must be supported by examples from their own experiences and observations.

SQUARE ONE

By the end of the teacher-training program, participants will have branched out in many different  directions, and will be preparing to go forward on their separate ways. It is time for them to go  back to square one and re-examine the basic beliefs they will take with them into their teaching careers.

In this final workshop we will look back at the seeds of our interest in education and the threads of interest and enthusiasm that have run through the training. Meditation, movement, art, and discussion will be used to examine those things that nurture us as human beings and inspire us as teachers. The weekend will close with a graduation ceremony and celebration.
