Enki at a Glance

Community: In a school, it is the strong and nurturing class community that provides a foundation that is easily extended into the larger school, local, and global communities through the child’s activities and studies. In a homeschool, this community is the family.

“The Enki graduates entered 7th grade as a positive and supportive peer group. They were a strong enough community to carry five new children into this positive mood. They maintained their sense of group and yet expanded it to include the new ones.”

Reverence for the Environment: Through long walks in the woods, gardening, roadside clean-up, animal care, and similar activities, children engage with and participate in the care of the natural world around them. These ongoing activities are deepened and brought to understanding through our science curriculum.

How Do They Fare?

On statewide tests, 80% of 6th graders in an Enki classroom scored in the highest levels in both Math and Language Arts, as compared with a statewide average of only 23%.

"The Enki graduates’ overall attitude and positive outlook toward learning has been fantastic. What stands out most strongly is their openness to and love of learning - that is quite uncommon for children at this age. They have been a delight”

- middle school principal
