Enki Education is among the newer, high-quality homeschool
curriculum programs now available. Others include:
Live Education
Christopherus,
Practical Montessori/ Renaissance Parenting, and
The North American Montessori Center.
Although new to the market, Live Education presents
the most purely Waldorf curriculum for the homeschool. Live
Education provides written guidance, consultation, and some
of the stories needed for teaching the curriculum. As is
true in Waldorf schools, Live Education leaves much of the
collection and creation of the material up to the teacher. Christopherus describes
itself as having a radical relationship to Waldorf
Education, this Waldorf
inspired program offers a newer approach to working with
Waldorf pedagogy. It offers an ever-growing set of resource
materials and a lively online discussion group. Practical
Montessori offers guidance in choosing materials, but
centers around a lively and practical discussion on the ins
and outs of homeschooling, while the NAMC focuses
on curriculum materials and information.
While Enki draws on the wisdom of traditional cultures and
the methodologies of well-established educational systems,
it weaves these together in an innovative and original, holistic
education program. All materials
in the Enki library bring forth the Enki philosophy, a philosophy
shared by contemplative traditions throughout history: that
all people through all times and all places have an indestructible
wisdom and vitality that is their birthright. This outlook
impacts the way we approach the curricular content, as described
in our Teaching Guides,
as well as the stories, arts, and activities we choose and
the way these materials are adapted. It also determines the
content of original materials, from stories and activities
to worksheets and assignments, which are designed to teach
all academics through the arts. While we encourage parents
and teachers to create their own material as fits their inspiration
and time, our subject specific, Resource
Libraries provide ample material for teaching all subject
areas in any given year. This leaves the teacher (whether
at home or in the classroom) free to do what only she can
do: focus on the children before her.
Enki also supports an ongoing discussion group offering
help with homeschooling to those working with the material.
This open and straightforward discussion ranges from the
very practical daily struggles and inspirations, to the philosophical
implications of our holisitic
approach. Most of all, it is a community of like minded
people supporting one another through the joys and challenges
of educating children. |
