Second grade Nature Stories include a focus
on energetic phenomena that mirror the lively, mischievous nature
of the second grader: flood, blizzard, fire, tornado, earthquake,
and so on. Whether racing downhill with a thunderous avalanche,
twisting wildly with the tornado's spin, or bending gracefully
with the corn under hurricane's pounding rain, the lively Grade
Two Nature Stories give the child a chance to explore natural
phenomenon so like their own energy at this age. Through this
deep engagement, these stories spark the child's own powers of
observation and appreciation of the interdependent world in which
we live, and their place within it. Strengthening this “living sense” of
scientific phenomena in the early years creates a strong foundation
for later intellectual exploration.
Along with these adventurous stories, this
Grade Two collection includes some seasonal stories from Grade
One and Kindergarten. Whether hearing these for the first time,
or hearing them again, the cyclic nature of the stories - and
their retelling - offer a balance to the more wild Grade Two
stories, reassuring the child of the dependability of nature’s
processes. |
