FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS...
About Purchasing Enki Materials

I want books now, but will want a package later. Do I have to pay twice?

For Kindergarten Packages the savings is minimal so there is little lost in purchasing books separately. However, for the Grade Level Packages, the savings is significant. Therefore, to help you get a feeling for Enki before committing to a significant purchase, we offer a $50 credit towards the package price on the first Resource book you purchase, OR a complete credit on the Foundation Guides is applied to the first complete package purchase.

We hope you will enjoy browsing through our collections in which you will find a listing of all books included in any given package.

When will materials listed on this site be available for purchase?

If a book or other materials are currently available for order, it will be indicated as such in the product description where you would click on a link to order it online or by phone.

In the past we attempted to provide estimated availability dates for materials as they neared publication. Due to technology related problems, these materials have not always been available on the schedule originally anticipated. While these delays were beyond our immediate control, we understand that not having the books available when originally anticipated has caused problems for some of our customers.

As a result, we will no longer provide estimated availability dates for materials in advance of publication. We realize for some of you this too may pose an inconvenience, as you try to plan your own teaching calendar. For that we apologize, but in the absence of 100% accurate information, we are opting to provide "no release date information" until the materials are press-ready. We hope this new policy will allow customers to consistently get materials in a timely manner, even though it may initially make future planning a bit more of a challenge.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we strive for the best possible solution to serve your needs. Please contact us if you have questions about this new policy.

Which Enki Materials are currently available for purchase?

If a book or other materials are currently available for order, it will be indicated as such in the detailed product description where you would click on a link to order it.

Can I purchase materials using a purchase order? If so, are there any additional costs or conditions?

The post-payment, purchase-order option is only available through institutions such as charter or independent schools or other state programs. Orders made through such institutions will incur an additional handling fee of 5% of the book purchase price. Please add this to the total on the Purchase Order. If payment is not received within 60 days of the mailing date, an additional 10% late fee will be charged.

Is it possible to purchase the materials in electronic format, for instance as Adobe Acrobat PDFs that I may print myself? Is there any difference in price if purchased this way?

We offer two approaches to CD'-ROM's. Available with the purchase of all of our Guides are "read only/screen versions" to make referencing and research easier. These can be ordered with the printed copy for a nominal additional charge. We also automatically include them with all packages.

NEW! We are now offering a licensed ELECTRONIC CD version of the materials. Click here for more information.

Are there any limits on how I may use the "electronic PDF versions" of the Enki materials?

The "electronic PDF versions" of our materials hold the same copyright as our printed materials. You may use them for your own study and research, but you may not print additional copies for others or distribute copies of the PDFs to others. Doing so is a violation of your copyright agreement.

What am I saving by buying a Package?

Buying a Grade Level Package benefits you in three ways. First, you save more than $100 over the cost of those books you could buy separately. Second, you receive additional books and demonstration DVD's which are only available to purchasers of packages, and which would cost $300 if they were sold separately. Third, you receive other benefits, listed below.

What other benefits are there to buying a Package?

Purchasing a curriculum package also entitles you to special support and enrichment opportunities. First of all, first time package purchases include an indepth (hour+) individual consultation with our director, Beth Sutton, to explore how the Enki approach and materials can best be adapted to support your particular family or classroom. As well, package owners are eligible to participate in both general and grade specific, online peer discussion groups, and monthly group phone discussions with our director. Package owners also receive any significant updates to their books via email. Finally, package owners are eligible to attend attend our conferences and courses.

What are your return policies for Enki materials? Can I resell or pass them on?

Ownership and Return Policies:

Printed Copy Books can be returned for 2 weeks from delivery date for a refund on the book price less a 15% restocking fee. All shipping and handling fees are the responsibility of the customer.

We do NOT accept returns on any ELECTRONIC Packages.* Since we provide an online opportunity to preview all books in electronic form IN FULL, and we provide samples from all books and other media, those comfortable with online viewing have the ability to make a fully informed decision before purchasing. Therefore, all sales of ELECTRONIC materials are final.

Whether you are purchasing the printed or electronic version of Enki, in order to ensure continued production of Enki materials, we ask that you consider your purchase of any Enki materials to be a family tuition, and do not resell or pass on your books outside the family.

This is an unusual return, resale and sharing policy - one that requires a shift in outlook. It is a shift from a consumer based paradigm to a community based one. Basically, though now in its 18th year, in the educational world Enki is very young. As David Marshak, Ed.D, professor, independent educator, and author of The Common Vision: Parenting and Education for Wholeness describes Enki: "In the most profound way, Enki Education is a new expression of holistic education, one that has been created in our own times. . . what is evident from a careful examination of the Enki Education materials is that there is now a third well-developed, holistic education model available to parents and teachers that embodies its very own nature and character."

To bring this new expression into the world requires a community of people working together, much like any other healthy birthing. To do that we have to operate much like a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) - in our case, a CSE (Community Supported Education). In this model we all put in so that together we can bring the children of the world something of real value. Those at Enki central have always and today continue to volunteer a significant amount of time to make Enki a reality; those who use the material pay for it as a tuition which, like any tuition, cannot be passed on or resold. They also contribute feedback on their experience and understanding, which in turn helps us rework the materials to better serve the families and more clearly bring Enki forward. Together, each of these generous hands guides Enki through its birthing.

All told, we are birthing something new. But at the same time, in both the education itself and in the way we bring it to the world, we are drawing from the same wisdom human beings have come back to again and again since the dawn of time: the wisdom and richness of community.

*Why is there a return opportunity on the printed copy and not on the electronic? To use the preview function you will have to download a plug in. This same plug in is needed to use ELECTRONIC ENKI. While anyone is welcome to use this feature of our site, many of those who want printed copy will not want to work with computer plug ins. Therefore, we allow returns once these people, too, have had about a week to preview the materials. Returns do carry the loss of the15% restocking fee and the shipping and handling fees, so we encourage everyone to check out the full preview, if they are able.

What are the benefits to purchasing all the Guides or a full package?

BONUS MATERIALS: Teaching Guide and Grade Level Package

Purchasing most packages or a complete set of Guides will bring you a significant savings over purchasing the individual parts. For Grade Level Packages this represents hundreds of dollars saved; for Kindergarten sets there is a lesser, but still significant savings. The purchase of a package also includes a Starting Up Booklet, a "Road Map to Enki" DVD, and a Reference CD to help you navigate our extensive materials.

As well, the purchase of any Teaching Guide or any Grade Level Package includes the Enki Education film: Developmental Immersion-Mastery (available in VHS or DVD). You are also entitled to participate in both online and telephone discussion groups and attend homeschooling conferences and online courses.

Your first purchase of a full set of Teaching Guides or any Package also includes a one-hour+, individual phone consultation with the developer of Enki Education, Beth Sutton, to help you navigate implementation of the materials and adapt them for your particular situation. After the initial consultation, additional consultation packages can be purchased.

If you have any questions about the suitability of particular materials for your situation, we offer weekly pre-purchase telephone discussion. Simply email info@enkieducation.org or visit our parent discussion site (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/EnkiExperience) for specific information on the time and contact numbers.

Independent Educator Reviews

The following is excerpted from an article by David Marshak, Ed.D in the Global Intelligencer (http://www.theglobalintelligencer.com). David is the author of The Common Vision: Parenting and Education for Wholeness and has taught people of all ages, led schools and school districts, and studied and taught education and schooling for several decades, most recently as an education professor at Seattle University.

In the most profound way, Enki Education is a new expression of holistic education, one that has been created in our own times. . . .

Maria Montessori first came to the US in 1913. Her visit provoked much interest in her educational approach, and for several subsequent years a number of Montessori schools were opened in North America. Yet after 1920 almost all of them disappeared. Only in the late 1950s did Montessori education once again become available in the US and Canada. Since then, the Montessori movement has grown dramatically.

The first Waldorf school in North America opened in 1928, the second in 1942. By 1959 there were only seven Waldorf school on the continent. Only four more opened in the 1960s, but in the 1970s Waldorf education took off, with 25 new schools in that decade and 58 new schools in the 1980s. Now there are 142 Waldorf schools in the US and Canada.

In contrast Enki Education is in its infancy. Will it speak to people in the ways that Montessori and Waldorf do? Will Enki gain a critical mass of homeschooling parents and become a new kind of movement? Might it begin to be a curricular and pedagogical model that is used in a significant number of 21st century schools? There’s no way to know at this point. But what is evident from a careful examination of the Enki Education materials is that there is now a third well-developed, holistic education model available to parents and teachers that embodies its very own nature and character.
